Ottawa: Apparent tornado or funnel was actually a smoke plume
Editor's Note: This story has been updated and amended.
A viewer video sent to The Weather Network Wednesday afternoon that appeared to show a tornado or funnel cloud over the Ottawa area seems to have actually captured a smoke plume from a fire in Gatineau.
The phenomenon was caught on camera in Orléans, a suburb of Ottawa, on Wednesday afternoon around 3:20 pm. No tornado warning was issued by Environment Canada, but archived radar showed a strong, weakly rotating cell over the Ottawa Valley at the time the video was shot:

The Weather Network called for more photos and video from Weather Network viewers on social media, and people responded with additional images that appeared to confirm it was actually a smoke plume from a fire in the Gatineau area.
This story has been updated to reflect the new information.
