Tuesday, May 10th 2022, 11:50 am - Candid Closeup is a weekly segment that features Canadians from coast to coast who love to share their weather. In this episode, The Weather Network's Kim MacDonald had the opportunity to speak with Lorraine Parow, a photographer from Toronto who's fighting cancer one 'silly forecast' at a time.
Lorraine Parow, like many people, was loathing to visit a hospital when she started feeling unusually tired in 2020. A year later, she finally decided to find out what was causing the exhaustion.
After a series of tests and scans, Parow heard the devastating news that she had advanced pancreatic cancer.
The professional photographer whose work has been published in Macleans, Time, and Newsweek was no longer working on big projects. The lockdowns had forced her to stay close to home, and her days of working with a crew had come to an end.
Parow decided that the best way to deal with a personal and global crises was to give back and make others laugh. A fan of the outdoors who constantly kept an eye on the weather, the photographer made the decision to step out of her comfort zone. That meant putting her face in front of the camera rather than behind it. She covered up her newly bald head with a fun hat and tried her hand at delivering the weather. She called it "The Silly Hat Weather Forecast."
Day after day, Parow would head outdoors, record herself and then send the final product to The Weather Network.
