An 11 year-old boy and a 15 year-old-boy are dead after snowmobiles went through the ice in Ontario's Lake Muskoka region, local police say.

According to Bracebridge OPP, five people on three snowmobiles went through the ice and into the water shortly after midnight Monday.

Three people, a 31 year-old man, a 37 year-old man and a 14 year-old youth made it to shore.

Emergency responders transferred 11 year-old Mitchell Paris of Gravenhurst and 15 year-old Alexander Martin of Bracebridge to the hospital but they were pronounced dead.

GoFundMe pages have been set up for Alexander and Mitchell to help cover funeral costs.

Alexander's page describes him as a "sweet, loving, kind, basketball crazed, funny soul."

A former teacher of Mitchell describes him as a "beautiful little soul."

A Facebook post says a joint funeral will be held for the boys Friday in Gravenhurst.
