Friday, December 6th 2019, 12:31 pm - An investigation is underway.
Wintry conditions may have contributed to a head-on collision involving two commercial vehicles on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Revelstoke, B.C. early Friday morning.
“Police arrived on scene and located two commercial tractor-trailers which had collided head-on, with both drivers being pinned inside the vehicles. Both required extrication by the Revelstoke Fire Rescue Service as well as transportation to the Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke by BC Ambulance Service,” RCMP staff sergeant Kurt Grabinsky said in a written statement.
An investigation is underway with the highway expected to re-open after 2 p.m.
“The Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed until the RCMP collision analyst conducts the investigation, and the vehicles can be removed from the road,” Grabinsky said.
“Following this, the roadway will need to be cleared by the local highways maintenance contractor EMCON and approved safe for travel by the Ministry of Transportation.”
Snowfall warnings are in place across B.C., including the area where the accident occurred. With upwards of 20 cm accumulation expected in some areas, motorists are being advised to slow down and drive according to the conditions.
