Surprising area will see a warmer Thanksgiving than half of Canada

The extreme pattern draped over Canada will allow a town just south of the Arctic Circle to enjoy a warmer Thanksgiving than half of the country.

Norman Wells in October is…well, normally chilly.

Sitting about 150 km south of the Arctic Circle, their average high this time of year is just a couple of degrees above the freezing mark. If Norman Wells tops out above 15 degrees on Sunday, it'll be the latest day of the year that's occurred on record.

A couple of thousand kilometres south, things are even warmer for Thanksgiving dinner Sunday evening.

The western warmth looks to continue for a while longer. Communities across Yukon and the Northwest Territories will see above-seasonal temperatures continue through Monday and Tuesday before conditions drop closer to where they should be by the middle of October.

Conditions in British Columbia are a different story. This ridge is jammed in place over Western Canada, keeping folks across the South Coast exceptionally warm for this time of year.

Daytime highs around the 20-degree mark are possible in Vancouver by the end of next week, while Abbotsford will see temperatures in the mid-20s through the middle of the month.
