On September 8th, 1952, Canadian English television made its debut on CBC and the first person to appear on the screen was —— a weatherman!

Percy Saltzman was a veteran meteorologist when he made his on-air debut. He was known for his energetic and dramatic explanations of the weather.

Of course, in 1952, weather forecasting was much different than it is today. Instead of talking in front of a green screen, Percy drew with chalk on a blackboard.

Saltzman was the first Canadian to present the weather in satellite and radar images. He presented for 22 years with a total of approximately 9,000 weather forecasts on radio and television.
