St. Patrick's Day celebrations go virtual this year

Tuesday, March 17th 2020, 3:32 pm - People may be stuck indoors, but spirits are lively.

COVID-19 has led to an unprecedented number of shutdowns and cancellations across the globe -- one of them being St. Patrick's Day parades, which were scheduled to take place in several cities.

A few days ago, some Twitter users had an idea:

Why not take this year's parade online?

"Guys, I was thinking," Twitter user Mike McLoughlin, a resident of Limerick, Ireland, said on March 9.

"There must be kids (and adults) up and down the country who were all set for St. Patrick’s day parades and have put lots of work into their floats and costumes ... how about a virtual parade on here? One hashtag, share the pics and vids here on the 17th?"

Users decided on the hashtag #stpatricksdaytogether and they've spent the day populating it with photos.
