A soggy Sunday ahead for the Maritimes as muggy air sticks around
It’s been unseasonably warm and muggy across the Maritimes as southerly winds bring a tropical influence to the region. A system slowly moving east will bring steady rain to much of the region during the day on Sunday before moving off toward Newfoundland to start the week. SUNDAY: A PUSH OF TROPICAL MOISTURE SOAKS THE MARITIMES
Rain will push into New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on Sunday morning. The soaking rain in New Brunswick will be heaviest through Sunday before shifting to Newfoundland for Monday.
Parts of the Maritimes will see a decent amount of rainfall through Sunday night. Much of New Brunswick is expected to receive 20-40 mm of rain, with similar amounts possible in parts of Nova Scotia.
The precipitation will reach Newfoundland by Monday afternoon, bringing much of the island some measurable rainfall. The heaviest totals are expected around Burgeo.
Temperature-wise, the Maritimes will see temperatures peak in the mid-to-upper teens on Sunday, with even a few spots in Nova Scotia potentially hitting 20°C.
Much cooler temperatures will be present across the Gulf, with single-digit highs for most of Newfoundland, but double-digit highs here and there is possible.
BEYOND: COOLER TEMPERATURES RETURN, UNSETTLED CONDITIONS
That system looks set to stall over the region, bringing occasional showers for Newfoundland and the eastern Maritimes through mid-week, along with cooler temperatures. St John's, N.L., will return to seasonal values by Tuesday.
The next rainmaker to watch comes late-week, with a system that could bring rain to the Maritimes Friday and to Newfoundland next weekend.
