Labour Day: Large funnel cloud prompts tornado warnings in Saskatchewan
Social media lit up after multiple reports of large funnel clouds over parts of southern Saskatchewan Monday
Just as most Canadians were soaking up the last bits of summer over the Labour Day long weekend, social media erupted with images of large funnel clouds over parts of southeastern Saskatchewan on Monday.
Conditions were ripe for the development of severe thunderstorms across the region through the late afternoon and evening hours, prompting tornado warnings across the Rural Municipalities of Tecumseh and Griffin. A tornado warning was also issued for the RMs of Lumsden and Edenwald, including Balgonie, Piapot Reserve, Regina Beach and Craven. It wasn't long before residents took to Twitter, sharing images of a large funnel cloud spotted northwest of Regina.
Environment Canada has yet to confirm whether or not these funnel clouds made contact with the ground.
Severe thunderstorm warnings continued past 8 p.m. with reports of powerful winds and quarter-sized hail.
