The storm brought hail the size of softballs to Del Rio, Texas, Saturday night.

A severe thunderstorm brought softball-sized hail to parts of Texas Saturday night, damaging cars and houses.

Del Rio, Texas, was slammed by a storm that included strong winds and hailstones as big as softballs, causing extensive damage to vehicles, roofs and windows. Residents in the city's east and north ends, as well as the downtown area, reported large hailstones on their properties.

One particular homeowner had incurred broken windows on a house and a smashed windshield on a vehicle. Elsewhere nearby, hailstones in the Pulliam area were reported to be avocado-sized.

The storm is part of a possible larger-scale outbreak of severe weather that threatens the southern U.S.Sunday through Monday. The risk stretches from Texas to parts of the East Coast and may include strong, long-track tornadoes, widespread damaging winds, large hail and flooding rain.
