PHOTOS: ‘Grapefruit-sized hail,’ severe storms leaves damage in parts of Alberta

The majority of Alberta was under severe thunderstorm watches Monday. Supercells triggered tornado warnings for central and southern regions of the province.

Tornado-warned storms hit parts of central and southern Alberta through the afternoon and evening on Monday bringing heavy rain, strong wind gusts and hail the size of grapefruits.

The theme of active weather has been consistent for the Prairies over the August long weekend after a tornado was confirmed in Alberta during severe storms on Sunday. Tornadoes haven’t been confirmed for Monday’s events, but south of Red Deer saw significant hail that did a lot of damage.
