Parts of Alberta received a hefty shot of snow Friday, with another shot of it moving through Sunday.

The calendar says October but tell that to Mother Nature, which left some Albertans reeling after dropping a hefty amount of snowfall to parts of the province Friday.

The wintry blast was all courtesy of a Pacific low, which was bolstered by plenty of moisture as it spilled east over the Rockies.

By the time the snow tapered off Saturday morning, some of the mountain areas received 15-30 cm. Even parts of south-central Alberta, around Red Deer and Sundre, were expected to see 10-15 cm, while portions of Calgary were hit with 5-10 cm of the white stuff.

After a break from the snow Saturday, an additional round of the white stuff pushed in Sunday morning, courtesy of another moisture-charged Pacific low. There will be a short-lived reprieve from the snow in the afternoon before another dose moves through in the overnight hours.

Below is a selection of visuals of the wintry blast that are currently circulating online.
