With extremely dry conditions in the southern portions of the province, officials are warning of a long summer for firefighting crews.

Crews in Manitoba are struggling to contain an "out of control" wildfire that is burning within Sandilands Provincial Forest, southeast of Steinbach.

Six provincial crews and local fire departments have been fighting the blaze since Saturday, May 8. A state of local emergency has been issued in the community of Piney Reeve, as a precaution should the fire warrant evacuations.
