Ottawa wants to pay Canadian tourists $100 to visit

Tourists who book a minimum of two consecutive nights at a participating hotel through the Ottawa Tourism website will receive $100 off their hotel stay.

Canadian tourists visiting Ottawa may be eligible for a $100 incentive from Ottawa Tourism.

Officials hope the promotion attracts people from nearby cities like Toronto and Montreal, allowing local business owners to recoup some of the revenue lost during COVID-19 lockdowns.

A SLOW SUMMER

Summer is typically a busy time in Ottawa, but border closures and widespread lockdowns led to a slower-than-usual season for the tourism sector.

As of April the city had already lost $17.5 billion due to a tourism slowdown.

COVID-19 also forced the cancellation of several popular summer events in Ottawa. Canada Day celebrations at Parliament Hill were held virtually this year.
