Tuesday, August 25th 2020, 7:15 am - Strong overnight storms brought frequent and impressive lightning, though some damage has been reported.
An overnight cold front sinking southward through southern Ontario triggered some powerful and impressive thunderstorms as it sliced through the humidity still lingering in the province.
Storms, sometimes reaching severe levels, were reported all through at leas the southwest, along with parts of the GTA, marked by frequent and widespread lightning strikes that would have been a treat for late-night shutterbugs.
Those storms were damaging here and there as well, however, with several reports of downed trees in the Ingersoll area, with likely Tuesday morning once people have had a chance to assess the storms' aftermath by daylight.
Below is a selection of how the storms played out on Twitter.
A few shots from this evening as a severe warned, multi-cell cluster that brought strong wind gusts and torrential rain tracked through the Golden Horseshoe and out over Lake Ontario. #onstorm #onwx #lightning pic.twitter.com/TAzlwsxjt5

Damage on county roads north of Ingersoll is high end. Most roads impassable. I'm walking on foot with my LED panel and trees laid over across road as far as eye can see with wires strewn about. 25% of canopy ripped apart. 120-130km/h+ in spots. #onstorm @ECCCWeatherON @cluke5 pic.twitter.com/Cbc3aYkmnB

Quite the light show in #HamOnt tonight. This is the only good shot I managed to snap before my camera battery died, wanted to go find a charged one but didn’t want to miss the show. #onstorm pic.twitter.com/ubJhES8WLo
