Humidex gives Ontarians a slight break, risk of storms Tuesday

Monday, August 10th 2020, 7:15 pm - Tuesday should be cooler in Ontario as humidex values decrease throughout the week.

Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and north-western parts of Indiana were rocked by a derecho throughout Monday. Ontario won't feel too much of the system as the atmosphere isn't favourable to keep the storm alive. What should occur, is a decrease in humidity throughout Tuesday afternoon and evening. There is also a risk of storms. Wednesday looks to be less humid than Tuesday for an optimal summer day. For a more detailed look, see below.

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Tuesday risk shifts to eastern Ontario and the Niagara Region
  • Ontario cools off to more comfortable heat Tuesday
  • Wednesday looks to be even an even more comfortable
  • Keep an eye on weather ALERTS in your area

TUESDAY AND BEYOND: THREAT FOR STORMS REMAINS, HEAT WILL EASE OFF

A derecho is a long-lived, fast-moving, straight-line wind storm that fuels itself as it moves. The derecho that made its way through Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana should not really impact southern Ontario too much, but some leftover effects may cause showers throughout the area. Main risks for any storms will be localized flooding and brief downpours.

Temperature-wise, Tuesday will be around five degrees cooler than Monday, making it a lot more comfortable, but still very warm.

ONRISK2 (1)

The GTA and rest of the south presently hold a non-severe storm chance, but the western GTA in particular is on the knife's edge.

Beyond Tuesday's storms, however, the worst of the humidity will finally have departed: Daytime highs for most of the rest of the week look to be in the upper 20s, feeling at or a bit above 30 for most people -- much closer to seasonal for mid-August.

ON Temps Wednesday

Temperatures and humidity look to stay at around that level for the rest of the week, though ticking up a bit as we enter the weekend.

Check back as we continue to monitor the forecast.
