The fast-spreading fire was 0 per cent contained Thursday morning.

A massive fire that's destroyed more than 4,000 hectares so far is burning in the Santa Clarita Valley.

As of Thursday morning, the fire was 0 per cent contained.

Los Angeles County police began evacuations Wednesday night as the fire split into two directions, one heading southwest to Pine Canyon and the other heading north toward Lake Hughes due to shifting winds.

Some rain gave the more than 1,000 firefighters battling the blaze some relief Thursday morning, but high temperatures forecasted throughout the day mixed with low humidity continue to keep the fire risk high.

At least three buildings have been damaged in the fire so far, according to local media reports.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday night, LA County Deputy Chief David Richardson called the blaze a "major fire" and said crews will likely be battling it for "days to come."
