This small Greek island will pay you $740 a month to live there
A small Greek island is offering families around $740 a month Canadian (500 euros) to build a home there.
Local officials hope to grow the local population to 24 permanent residents, according to CTV and Greek news website iefimerida.gr.
The island will also provide free housing and food, according to CTV.
In an interview with iefimerida.gr Andreas Harhalakis, the island council's president, said officials are looking for people interested in working as bakers, builders, and fishermen.
Harhalakis described the 22-square-kilometre island as "beautiful" but "difficult during the winter months."
Island officials say they are hoping for at least three young families with children. He said a family with three children recently relocated and it has made the community "come alive".
At least 15 large families have reportedly expressed an interest in relocating.
Hundreds of people once inhabited the island located between Crete and Kythira in the Mediterranean Sea, but several inhabitants were expelled from the area by Nazis during the second world war.
