The video she captured -- featured a near-perfect snow devil -- has since gone viral.

Snow twisters, or snow devils from in a similar fashion to a water spout. When cool air passes over a warmer surface of water and is picked up by wind shear through the rising air it creates rotation.

Snow devils can happen on land as well, far away from water.

In those instances, bright sun heats the ground, creating a warming effect on the updraft air. When mixed with a crosswind, rotation occurs.
