4.7 magnitude earthquake rattles Northern California

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake was reported in Northern California Thursday evening, according to the U.S. Geographical Survey. It struck near Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nevada.

The quake's epicentre was just northwest of Truckee, with tremors being felt as far away as Sacramento, according to FOX 40 in Sacramento.

There have been reports of injuries or any major damage.

According to local news source YubaNet, thousands of people were reportedly without power in Nevada County, California due to the quake.
