Minor earthquake strikes near Halifax, residents report loud 'bang'
Sunday's minor earthquake near Halifax caught several residents off guard.
Residents of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia who heard a loud noise Sunday evening are now learning it was the result of a minor earthquake.
Halifax Regional Police were called to the Montebello area following a 2.6 magnitude earthquake, though with no reports of any damage or injuries there.
According to Natural Resources Canada, "it is very unlikely that an earthquake of magnitude less than 5 could cause any damage."

Police officials however, said there were several 911 calls from people who reported hearing a loud noise, which some described sounded like an "explosion."
One resident told the Weather Network’s Nathan Coleman they thought their propane blew up.
Another said they were just watching their TV and then "bang."
"The house shook and we went outside to see if someone crashed or something outside our place," said resident Jen Miller over Twitter. "The neighbours were around and emergency vehicles were up and down our road. We went out for a ride and found out it was an earthquake."
