Sunday, October 13th 2019, 7:45 am - Fall snowstorm makes for major disruptions in southern Manitoba.
Southern Manitoba is experiencing an early taste of winter with heavy snow and strong winds that forced the closure of many major routes through the region.
The major snowstorm even caused a WestJet plane to go off the edge of the taxiway and get stuck in the snow at the airport in Winnipeg, as reported by Global News.
As of 1 p.m. on Saturday several regions saw significant snowfall amounts with 60 cm in Theherne and 74 cm in Carberry. Light snow will continue into Sunday before tapering off into flurries.
Tens of thousands remained without power Sunday morning and Manitoba Hydro crews said they have 'never seen anything like' the conditions in some rural areas. Many of the outages are expected to last until at least Sunday as temperatures hover near the freezing mark.

Only in Winnipeg LOL. Some guy rollerblading through the snow while drinking a slurpee, and a Canadian Tire truck rolls by 😂. Most Canadian thing I've ever seen 🇨🇦 🎥: @dylanhowelllmb https://t.co/nqVKtkhEotDJ Blitz on Twitter
Most of the damage around Manitoba can be attributed to the consistency of this snow. As @justinhobson85 likes to call it, it's like "snowcrete". #mbstorm @weathernetwork https://t.co/cgkNxiFzTVKyle Brittain on Twitter

Sorry @CoCoRaHS_MB, but pretty sure my reading this is wildly inaccurate. The top of the gauge was drifted right over. At least a heavy, wet foot accumulated on the grass since the start. #mbstormJeff Elder on Twitter

A night in a shelter in Portage La Prairie wasn't in my Thanksgiving Holidays plans, but I am sure giving thanks to the Portage residents who kept stranded holiday travellers safe & warm last night. #manitoba #mbstorm #portagelaprairie https://t.co/6nuUmMF3VDDonna Miller Fry on Twitter
