Man fined for trying to fry chicken in Yellowstone hot spring
People visiting the park are required to stay on designated boardwalks, and venturing into the thermal springs area is strictly prohibited.
A man from Idaho has been banned from Yellowstone National Park for at least two years after he tried to fry chicken in one of the park's hot springs.
The man was found by park rangers on August 7, who had received reports a group was walking toward Shoshone Geyser Basin armed with cooking pots, East Idaho News reports.
Two others in the group of ten were also cited by rangers, but it is unclear if they were banned from the park as well.
People visiting the park are required to stay on designated boardwalks, and venturing into the thermal springs area is strictly prohibited, as is placing objects inside the thermal features.
That's because hot springs emerge at a temperature of around 92°C, with some vents reported as high as 135°C, according to the park's website.
The man pleaded guilty in a local court and was fined $1,200 and prohibited from entering the park. He was also ordered to serve two years of unsupervised probation.
The thermal springs are the most dangerous feature at Yellowstone, according to the park's website, having killed or injured more people than anything else.
