Rain on your wedding day? Some good advice you just might take

Friday, September 13th 2019, 3:02 pm - Planning a wedding can be stressful and planning an outdoor wedding in Vancouver during the fall can be even worse.

You don't just have to worry about the DJ playing the right music. You've got the added stress of the weather, especially if your wedding is outside.

I found this out the hard way as my wedding day quickly approached with heavy rain in the forecast.

Everyone and their mother was telling me that rain on your wedding day is good luck. At first, I thought people were just trying to be supportive, but then I started to think: Maybe there's some truth to this sentiment.

So I did some research, and here's what I found.

Have you ever noticed how amazing rainy wedding day pictures look?

According to wedding videographer Chelsea Kanstrup, overcast days are easier to film because the sun can force people to squint while causing unflattering shadows. Kanstrup adds that rain on a wedding day adds a sense of romance.

Aside from rain making for a picture-perfect day, your bouquets may look perkier. Amanda Smit of Billies Flower Shop says a bit of rain will could help your flowers last longer and also look brighter in pictures.

There are some cultures and religions, like Hinduism, that believe a rainy wedding day is the foundation of a strong marriage. Others say it represents cleansing and fertility.

So while you might get a little wet, it seems like rain on a wedding day is actually good luck.
