Amid enduring hot temperatures, Sunday features another round of severe storm potential for Quebec.

Muggy conditions in Quebec were good fuel for thunderstorm risk Saturday, with a few severe warnings issued during the afternoon. Forecasters warned of the slight potential for tornadoes , though as of the evening, none had been reported. Beyond, severe risk returns to much of the province Sunday, and Quebec is set to bake in sweltering temperatures for a few days yet. A closer look, ahead.

SUNDAY: RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS RETURNS

Severe thunderstorms meandered across parts of Quebec Saturday, thanks to the favourable conditions, and a second round beckons for Sunday.

Forecasters expect the risk to be somewhat less than on Saturday, but still with a fair bit of severe potential, stretching south of the St. Lawrence, with Montreal and Quebec City being right on the cusp. Some severe chance is also there for Gaspésie.

Where storms do turn severe, strong winds, large hail and heavy rainfall would all be in play.

All this amid yet another scorcher of a day, with daytime highs at or above 30°C for many communities, and the humidex making it feel almost like 40.

There's the chance for widespread thunderstorms mid-week, but there is still uncertainty on the timing of the cold front as it sinks south. Overall the week looks to remain dry.

Relief from the high heat and humidity will arrive late week and hang on into the weekend, as cooler but seasonal temperatures return, with much lower humidity, behind the cold front.

However, new temperature records are likely to be broken before then for the longest stretch of 30°+C days so early in the season.
