Finding a tick attached to you, your pet, or a loved one can be a scary -- but a man in Kentucky had a recent experience that's a whole other level of terror.
Of all the places on his body, a tick decided to latch onto his eyeball. And it stayed there for a few hours, because Chris Prater didn't immediately realize what was causing his discomfort.
Prater works for a local electric company, so he's often outdoors in tick-infested areas. He told CNN the ticks are especially bad this year, so he makes sure to keep bug repellant on hand.
One day after leaving a job site in Johnson County, he felt a pain in his eye but didn't think much of it.
"I thought it was sawdust or something like that."
After several unsuccessful attempts to rinse his eye, he reluctantly visited an optometrist.
He says he'll never forget the visit.
"He said, "it's a tick," Prater recalls.
"That's when I got scared a little bit."
The doctor pulled the tick off his eye and there doesn't appear to be any damage.
Prater says he'll try to be more careful at job sites, but he's not sure what to do about his eyes.
After all, you can't spray them.
