Another round of multi-day blizzard warnings amid the first week of spring. Welcome to Canada!

Any consistent signs of pleasant spring weather are few and far between across much of Canada right now -- especially for the north, where dangerous blizzard conditions are ongoing.

On Tuesday, a blizzard warning was issued for the Dempster Highway, a four day warning that was set to remain in effect until Friday. Now, Yukon isn't the only territory impacted, with a multi-day blizzard warning expanding east into Nunavut.

A blizzard will develop over parts of the Kivalliq Thursday evening, with strong northwest winds of 50-60 km/h whipping across the region. This blizzard will also persist for several days, lasting into Sunday when conditions are expected to finally improve.

"Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous due to reduced visibility. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve," says Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in the warning. "If you do travel and become lost, remain where you are until the blizzard has passed. Protect yourself from wind, cold and disorientation by staying sheltered, indoors or with your vehicle. Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals."

The criteria for a blizzard warning are widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less, which are expected to last for at least 6 hours.
