Friday, May 24th 2019, 10:11 pm - The Okanagan resident says her initial reaction was shock
A homeowner in Peachland, B.C. was startled to encounter an unusual trespasser this past weekend, but now laughs at the bizarre encounter, and what the hungry intruder stole from her.
Colleen Linley figures that the bear entered her house around 5:45 a.m. Saturday morning through a lower-level door that wasn't properly secured.
Linley said to Global News that she initially was in shock because of the bear's large size and was worried it would suddenly bolt at her.
The bear spent approximately 10 minutes in a small utility room in the house where it dug into a small deep freezer and scarfed down eight frozen meat pies.
Linley's family was not harmed by the encounter and stated that they "laugh about it now."
This region of B.C. has recently experienced an increase in bear sightings and Wildsafe BC has promoted awareness and safety by going door-to-door to educate local residents.
