Rainfall and wind warnings in effect for Quebec, Wednesday brings downpours

Wednesday, September 30th 2020, 5:30 am - Quebeckers should take the time to tie down loose objects outside, as many areas are under rainfall and wind warnings.

Wednesday brings pounding downpours across Quebec, and winds that will be gusting past 100 km/h for the worst-hit parts of the province. A deeper look, below.

  • Rainfall and wind warnings are in effect for Quebec City and other coastal areas
  • Widespread rain moves in for Wednesday, rainfall warnings for some eastern areas
  • Winds in the 80-100 km/h range for eastern areas Wednesday afternoon and evening

Much heavier and widespread rains arrive through the morning, and by the time they exit the region late Wednesday, some areas will have picked up more than 50 mm of rainfall.

Quebec rain

Rainfall warnings are in effect for Quebec City and some areas to the north, where the heaviest rains are expected. The steady deluge looks to come to an end by the evening, but behind them will be spotty showers.

Potentially more damaging are the winds. They'll be ramping up as the worst of the rains begin to subside, and will be strongest in eastern parts of the Eastern Townships, and along the St. Lawrence east of Quebec City, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h through the afternoon and evening.

Beyond, an unsettled week is ahead, with cooler, more fall-like conditions into the weekend.
