The incident occurred on a school campus

Romulus McNeil was nearly struck by lightning on August 15 when he was walking through a school campus in Conway, South Carolina.

Security camera footage shows McNeill strolling through the rain with an umbrella when lightning suddenly strikes next to him.

“I felt a shock,” McNeill said to local media. “It was just kind of insane for it to happen like that. I was just trying to get home and get something to eat.”

The lightning strike caused McNeill to drop his umbrella and jump backwards in shock. He then picked it up and jogged away.

During this time the National Weather Service had reported that thunderstorms were tracking across parts of South Carolina.

McNeill shared the post to Facebook and said that he was thankful to not have any major injuries.
