Caught on cam: Large grizzly chases bear in Banff National Park
Camila Contreras was out in Banff National Park this summer when she unexpectedly witnessed a grizzly bear racing by her car while being chased by another larger bear.
Contreras is a photographer and was out exploring the park with her boyfriend, Corey Brooks, in hopes of capturing some unique wildlife scenes.
Contreras and Brooks had heard that there was a grain spill near the train tracks in Bow Valley Parkway and were driving around the area in hopes that bears were feeding nearby.
Many bears in the area have tags and the couple had already witnessed a large bear, known as Split Lip, chasing a smaller bear, tagged as Bear 126.
The couple prepared their phones in hopes that they would capture more bear interactions. Contreras said that Bear 126 was enjoying the grains when it suddenly lifted its head, indicating that it sensed another bear nearby.
Split Lip came charging in shortly after and Contreras was able to capture part of the encounter on camera, which can be seen in the video above.
Contreras says that the pursuit was "exhilarating" to watch and that it was their first time witnessing wildlife in action.
