Tornadoes, storms and lightning terrify you? This inspiring story may help

Candid Closeup is a weekly segment that features Canadians from coast to coast who love to share their weather. In this episode, The Weather Network's Kim MacDonald speaks to photographer Shannon Bileski, who talks about how she turned her fear of severe weather into an obsession.

Shannon Bileski was already a fan of thunderstorms, when – in 2007 (and quite by accident) – she happened upon the strongest tornado in Canadian history while on the way to her niece's birthday party.

From that moment on, she was determined to add "storm chaser" to her resume.

In this episode of Candid Closeup, the Selkirk, Man., resident shares how she turned childhood nightmares of The Wizard of Oz into dreams of capturing the perfect lightning bolt on camera.

She also shows us the one piece of life-saving equipment she won't leave home without.
