Bizarre: Waterspout looks like an umbilical cord in the sky

Monday, June 17th 2019, 8:01 pm - The spooky scene occurred near the Florida Keys

A stunning scene in the Florida Keys was recently captured - a waterspout that looked like an umbilical cord connecting the ocean to the sky.

Dylan Brown luckily had his camera on hand to record the gloomy skies and even captured the base of the waterspout on the ocean's surface.

Waterspouts are most common over tropical or subtropical waters and this unique occurrence happened on June 15 near Marathon, Florida in overcast conditions.

The dark clouds in the background and the short distance Brown was from the video make this footage exceptionally impressive, even though waterspouts in this region are not uncommon.

In general, waterspouts are tornados over a body of water, some of which are connected to clouds. They normally form as their parent clouds are developing and in environments with a lot of available moisture.
