Wednesday, June 12th 2019, 5:00 pm - Resident comes to the rescue of a moose calf stuck under a boulder in Alaska
Cries coming from the bushes alerted a resident to a moose calf stuck under a boulder in Homer, Alaska on Friday (June 7).
Video and photos shared on social media show the trapped animal and Sergius Hannan, a resident and wildlife photography enthusiast, lifting and dragging it away from the boulder.
Seeing the calf was probably dehydrated, he decided to call the Department of Fish and Game for help, Hannan told Reuters in an email.
A worker arrived at the scene around 10 minutes later and attended to the animal while Hannan left to minimise the calf's stress, Hannan said.
"He texted me later on to tell me that he had given her some fluids, cleaned her up, and waited around nearby until he came back and found that she had left", Hannan said.
"He said that she was likely off with her mother now, so her injuries must not have been critical to her health despite my initial impression", Hannan added.
