Mostly mild conditions will persist through this week in southern Ontario, but with periods of unsettled weather at times.

Temperatures will remain mild to start the day, but will slowly drop in the afternoon and evening hours. By Wednesday, daytime highs will be back to the single digits for most areas, with some light snow in cottage country. We take a look at when the rain ends Tuesday and how much will fall, as well as what to expect for the rest of the week, below.

TUESDAY: RAIN ENDS IN THE AFTERNOON, TEMPERATURES BEGIN TO DROP

Rain will continue in the south through the day Tuesday before tapering off, first in the southwest in the morning, in the afternoon through the GTA and Niagara and by the evening in eastern sections.

Areas near Algonquin Park and the Ottawa Valley may see a brief change to very light snow late Tuesday morning through early afternoon, but no accumulations are expected.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 10-20 mm is expected across most of the region, but parts of the southwest close to the Lake Erie shoreline and areas on the north side of Georgian Bay could get upwards of 25 mm of rain.

Daytime highs will still be well above zero on Tuesday, but will gradually drop with much cooler conditions expected on Wednesday. Cottage country will also see some light snow, but no significant amounts are expected.

"There's the potential for some snow showers late in the day and into Wednesday night," says Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham.

LATE WEEK: MORE UNSETTLED WEATHER, BUT ABOVE-ZERO STILL

The remainder of next week will feature daytime highs into the upper single digits, potentially climbing into double-digit territory once again by Friday.

"Temperatures will be near seasonal or a few degrees colder than seasonal for the weekend with fair weather expected across southern Ontario," says Gillham. "However, it looks like the following week -- March Break for many -- will bring several days of rather mild weather."
