Porcupine Lake Short Term Forecast
Porcupine Lake is about 3km long 1km wide and the home of the Timmins/Porcupine Lake Water Aerodome a hangar and parking facility for floatplanes that had previously seen very busy days flying supplies in to the many mining operations in the area (gold was first discovered here in 1909). Its accessibility (and boat launch) makes it the ideal location for an easy afternoon canoe trip and though shallow it has a good population of pike for fishing pickerel was also introduced several years ago and is making a comeback. Deadman's Cemetery where the victims (over 70) of a 1911 fire are buried is on the far side of the lake and Northern College is located on the west shore. An 8.5km trail partially wooded and well groomed encircles the lake and is technically a part of the Bart Thompson Trail System though locals know it simply as the Porcupine Lake Trail and go there frequently for walking running biking etc.
