Yakoun Lake is part of the Yaagan Siwaay or Yaagan Suu Heritage Site/ Conservancy. Yaagan Suu includes the Yakoun River corridor and the Yakoun Lake watershed is the largest river system on Haida Gwaii and is located in the southwester part of Graham Island. Yaagan Suu is a significant cultural social spiritual place for the Haida people. The heritage site includes intact old-growth forests a huge diversity of salmonids and other fish and areas closed off for the study of invasive deer species and medicinal plants. The northern part of Yaagan Suu is accessible from forest service roads but the lake itself is only accessible on foot. The heritage site is located 25 km northwest of Queen Charlotte and is 7 970 hectares. Traditional Haida trails can be found in the area connecting the lake watershed to other important cultural places.
