West Bay Beach Short Term Forecast

Beach Conditions

Unlike the deep waters of the surrounding Tahsis Inlet West Bay Beach is a sheltered little bay that is shallow and southwesterly facing catching sun and warming up to comfortable swimming temperatures. This park also has short trails and washroom facilities. It's a favorite spot for local residents to swim and sunbathe. With exception of the fur trade Tahsis remained unchanged until logging was introduced in the early 1900s. Tahsis expanded in the 1950s and a small village developed. In 1972 the road from Tahsis to Gold River opened to the public which made it easier for families to settle here. This beach is one of those beaches that will be measured 'as needed' by the Vancouver Island Health Authority. This means that the Vancouver Island Health Authority may keep the beaches open to swimmers despite the potential dangers to swimmers. Fraser Riverkeepers will always mark this beach with a grey rating (unless they begin to monitor the beach more frequently) to warn swimmers of potential dangers. When swimming in these waters always exercise caution.
