Strathcona is one of the oldest provincial parks in British Columbia. It was designated in 1911 and comprises of more than 250 000 hectares. Named after Donald Alexander Smith the 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal it contains a 15.5km (9.5 miles) trail to the Della Falls the highest waterfall in all of Canada. With so many trails it is a popular destination for hikers and mountain climbers. The main lake located in the area is Buttle Lake making it a good location for swimmers canoeists and kayakers as well. In addition the park includes campgrounds backpacking cross-country skiing trails and in-season fishing for cutthroat and rainbow trout.
