WATER QUALITY HISTORY:This beach was last sampled in September 2013.BEACH INFO:The Bella Coola Estuary is part of a river system situated where the freshwater of the Bella Coola River joins the salt water of the Bentink Arm. The estuary is habitat for bald eagles kingfishers trumpeter swans blue herons and more. The beaches and watershed are accessible for swimming boating and snorkeling with guided tours.Long before the Europeans arrived the First Nations Nuxalk people fished the Bella Coola river systems for food and trade goods. By the early 1900s a vibrant commercial fishing industry was born. But alongside commercial enterprises sport fishing thrived. Today Bella Coola's natural bounty attracts fishing enthusiasts of all levels.The most sought-after fish here is the salmon. All five Pacific species of salmon spawn in the rivers with overlapping runs this means that there will often be two or even three types of salmon fighting their way up to spawning grounds.AMENITIES:Washrooms and lodging are available in the area.
