Quarry Lake Recreation Area near Canmore Short Term Forecast
Quarry Lake is the local outdoor swimming pool for Canmore. This is one of Canmore's favorite recreation areas and you can swim and hang out on the sandy beach in July and August. The water is shallow with a sandy bottom in the beach area but deepens about 30 ft out. It is crystal clear and 'bracing' in temperature in the swimming area. The recreation area is kid friendly with day use amenities such as toilets grassy area picnic tables and dog off-leash but the water deepens faster than other Alberta lakes so exercise caution with the kids. Some parts of the lake are over 100 ft deep and you may see some cliff jumpers nearby. One point of interest is the popularity of marriages at Quarry Lake. The setting reminds one of Lake Annette in Jasper. Stunning views. Check out the signs that outline the history of the lake and area. Quite a transformation.This pristine beach and lake have enjoyed good water quality in previous years. NOTE: exercise caution when engaging in any activities involving submersion in very cold early bathing season waters. Quarry lake was posted as red during the flooding and recovery period in late June and early July 2013.
