Park Lake Provincial Park Beach Short Term Forecast
Located about 40 minutes North of Lethbridge Park Lake is another Southern Alberta lake/reservoir formed as part of the Southern Alberta irrigation projects in the early to mid 20th century. Park Lake PP was established in 1932 and is one of Alberta's oldest PP's. The day use and campground beach is popular with families because of the easy access playground soft sandy beach area shady/treed areas and shallow clear waters in marked swimming area. 1936 photo of Park Lake PP Swimming Area from the Galt Museum and Archives. The beach and lake were open for the whole of the 2011 2012 and 2013 bathing seasons and the lake has historically good water quality. Most of the large bodies of water in the Calgary and Southern regions of Alberta are reservoirs formed from large scale irrigation and smaller hydroelectric projects. Rivers such as the South Saskatchewan Old Man and Bow dammed for these projects are suffering from reduced in-stream flows to the extent that no more water licenses have been allocated for draws from these rivers in recent years.
