Muriel Lake Park Beach, AB
Muriel Lake Park Beach Short Term Forecast
Muriel Lake Park is a very nice park on the North end of Muriel Lake. The beach is sandy and the water shallow. This beach is part of a campground and day use park with everything a family needs for a day at the beach. Due to receeding water levels the day use area and parking lot are about 300 meters away from the beach as of July 2011. The area is quiet during the week as it seems most beach-goers are choosing the beaches at Moose Lake and Cold Lake. I would do the same as the beaches and swimming options are better at the other lakes. Garner Lake is another good alternative. Muriel Lake is close to Bonnyville and has suffered severe lake level drops over the last 30 years. This has been studied by the likes of Dr. David Schindler but lower levels have contributed to lower water quality and some salinity in the lake.NOTE: July4-Nov 6/2014. An AHS Blue-green algae advisory has been issued for the waters of Muriel Lake.http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/10158.aspThe beach and lake were open for the whole of the 2011 and 2012 bathing seasons. An AHS Blue-green algae advisory was issued for Muriel Lake from September 6-October 3 2013.
