Beach Conditions

Mission Beach is located in the Summer Village of Mission Beach and named after Rundle's Mission. Robert Rundle established a mission on the shores of Pigeon Lake in this area in 1847. Rundle was involved with many First Nations peoples interested in Christianity and was an advocate for their traditional beliefs and way of life. Mission Beach is a less touristy beach with a sandy/pebbly shore marked swimming area small beach area and large grassy picnic area across a local road from the beach. There is a playground picnic tables and washroom in the picnic area. Access to the beach is nearby the parking lot and down a small embankment. There is also a small boat launch. There was an Alberta Health Services Blue-Green Algae Health Advisory posted for Mission Beach and Pigeon Lake from August 2-October 11 2011 July 28 until the end of the bathing season in 2012 and Aug 16-Oct 3/2013. BGA blooms have occurred later in the bathing season in recent years on Pigeon Lake.The Pigeon Lake Watershed Association has become very active in recent years with research into the issues and possible solutions for the recreational water quality of the lake and lake levels including a nutrient budget being performed in 2012/13.NOTE: July 9-Nov 12/2014: An AHS Blue-Green Algae advisory has been issued for the waters of Pigeon Lake.
