Beach Conditions
Kinbrook Island PP has been called an 'oasis' on the Southern Alberta Prairies. The beach and park are on Lake Newell. The day use/campground beach is very popular in the Summer because of the wide sandy beach and clear shallow waters in the marked swimming area. The beach has modern day use amenities a playground picnic area and lots of shade provided by the trees near the beach. The PP is also popular for birdwatching including American White Pelicans. The beach and lake were open for the whole of the 2011 and 2012 bathing seasons and the lake has historically good water quality testing results.Photo credit to Tudor Barlow Flickr. In 1914 Lake Newell was created as part of a very large-scale irrigation project for agriculture in Southern Alberta which involved damming (Bossano Dam) the Bow River. The Lake is named after the land owner and irrigation expert in the area.
