Beach Conditions

Elks beach is a privately run beach area with an area for day use and picnicing. Lac La Nonne is translated as 'Nun Lake' and has a history of being hypertrophic (lots of algae especially in July August). The beach is well-maintained with a playground area. The water frontage is weedy and shallow. The Lac La Nonne Stewardship Group is one of the best in Alberta and they have been undertaking a number a watershed research and land management proposals to improve the state of the watershed. There is a boat launch adjacent to the beach. NOTE: AHS Health Advisory: August 15-Nov 6 2014: Blue-green algae advisory issued for Lac La NonneNOTE: ADVISORY: Alberta Health Services issued a blue-green algae advisory for the waters of Lac La Nonne Aug 13-Oct 3/2013 and August 17 until the end of the bathing season in 2012.
