Extreme Cold Warning

Issued at 04:34 Sunday 24 January 2021
Summary

A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

An arctic ridge of high pressure has allowed skies to clear and temperatures to plummet over central Saskatchewan, western Manitoba and Manitoba Interlake regions. Temperatures in the minus thirties along with winds of 10 to 15 km/h continue to produce extreme cold windchills of minus 40 or colder on Sunday morning. Temperatures are expected to moderate slightly by late morning.

Extreme cold will return for some areas on Sunday night into Monday, however increasing cloud cover will likely keep southernmost areas warmer.

###

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
