Special Air Quality Statement

Issued at 14:53 Sunday 01 August 2021

Smoke from forest fires scattered across central Saskatchewan is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility at times near and downwind from these fires.

In addition, above normal temperatures are expected through the weekend and into next week. The smoke and high temperatures may combine to bring further health stress to some individuals.

Hazy conditions will persist over the remainder of southern Saskatchewan due mainly to smoke aloft that has drifted in from fires over BC. However air quality is not expected to be significantly reduced with this smoke remaining well above the surface.

###

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Please call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with air quality.

Visit www.airhealth.ca for information on how to reduce your health risk and your personal contribution to pollution levels, as well as for current and forecast AQHI values.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
