Special Air Quality Statement

Issued at 15:20 Saturday 31 July 2021

Elevated pollution levels are expected or occurring.

Smoke from forest fires scattered across central Saskatchewan is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility at times near and downwind from these fires. Hazy conditions will persist over much of southern Saskatchewan due mainly to smoke aloft that has drifted in from fires over BC. However air quality is not expected to be significantly reduced with this smoke remaining well above the surface.

In addition, above normal temperatures are expected through the weekend and into next week. The smoke and high temperatures may combine to bring further health stress to some individuals.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Please call HealthLine 811 for advice on health risks, symptoms and precautions associated with air quality.

Visit for information on how to reduce your health risk and your personal contribution to pollution levels, as well as for current and forecast AQHI values.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
