Special Weather Statement

Issued at 22:39 Monday 24 February 2020

Winter storm Wednesday evening and Thursday

A major low pressure system from the United States will affect Western and Southwestern Quebec beginning Wednesday, then Central Quebec on Thursday and Eastern Quebec through Friday.

This system will bring heavy snow over most areas, with amounts upwards of 15 cm that could reach more than 25 cm over some areas. Additionally, this system will bring strong winds that are likely to produce blowing snow over more exposed areas, especially along the St Lawrence Estuary and the Gulf of St Lawrence.

Please note that over Southwestern Quebec Wednesday evening, precipitation may fall as rain with a risk of freezing rain before it changes over to heavy snow on Thursday.

Expect poor driving conditions due to low visibility and quickly accumulating snow on roads. Motorists should consider advancing or postponing their travel plans.

More detailed information will be issued over the next few days as
the track of the system becomes more certain.
